The Lake (a not so children's story)

A long time ago a meteor struck the earth creating a gaping hole. Over the years that hole was filled by the treacherous and constant rains that poured from the Clouds.

One day, after many, many days of rain, the Sun came up and started to shine her beams down to the earth. Once the Sun's rays hit the Lake, like a mirror he shined her beams back to her and together they shared in the warmth of the glorious light.

The Lake was warm and shiny and full.

The Sun was large and bright and satisfied.

The Sun so loved the Lake and the reflection she received back from him that she continued to shine and shine and shine. The Sun, with all of her might, pushed away the Clouds that wanted to bring the rain, just so that she could have the opportunity to shine her light on the Lake again each and every day.

However, every day that the Sun shined, the water from the Lake evaporated a little bit. Until finally the only water that was left of the Lake was the water that had hidden himself in a cave. A dark and lonely cave that he had quietly crept into.

No matter how much the Sun shined, she just couldn't reach the Lake, or what was left of him. So her brightness began to dull. And everything that made her fierce was pushed away. She became sad and weak and lonely.

The Clouds, seeing the Sun's vulnerability, quickly moved back in and the drought was over. The Clouds unloaded her rain over the earth, once again filling the Lake until it almost overflowed.

The Sun saw that in order for the Lake to be the Lake, he needed to have the rain that the Clouds offered as well. She so loved the Lake, and the reflection that he shined back to her. She knew she would miss that, but she started to see something better.

By allowing the Clouds to spread the rain and combining it with her own warm rays of light, the area that was once a crater, then the Lake, then a desert, was now evolving once again.

This time with the mixture of the rain and the sun, grass began to grow around the edges. Trees
sprouted. Flowers began to bloom and the once overflowing Lake brought new life. A wonderful and beautiful place that was much better than he had ever been before.

And together, the Sun, the Clouds, and the Lake lived happily ever after.
